In the end of 2017, one of my maternal Uncles and his partner, who is originally from Finland, packed up their lives and moved to the ‘land of Fin’ for good! 🇫🇮 With them being so prominent in my life, I had already planned my first visit! I had planned to go after my Uncle’s partner, Jo had given birth to their 3rd gorgeous dumpling, my little Koda-Bear 🍼
This was the first time travelling by myself. On my lonesome. It was actually quite cool. I felt so independent! Getting to the airport, making sure I’m checked-in, figuring out which gate I needed to be at. 🛫
At first glance, Finland was very similar to the UK, the only very evident difference, was the architecture and the lack of diversity in people, which was expected to be fair 👀
This was also the first time visiting and staying with family abroad, and it was so pleasant. My Uncle, his partner and their 3 boys live in the cutest bungalow homes in the city of Porvoo.
Considering Jo had just had a baby we didn’t do many activities; I was more there to offer assistance where I could around the house. We did however visit Jo’s family lake house! An experience that had me in awe. We took a boat ride to the house, which was actually an experience in itself. 😂
Before we left, I was prepped and ready for the lack of running water and electricity. So no toilets and when my phone and laptop died, they we truly dead.
I had my own little cabin to stay in for the night, which was also connected to a sauna! A sauna! The view I had from that cabin, whew. See photo above. It was so gorgeous. We then had breakfast on the porch of the lake house; I have to say that there’s something endearing about the typical European breakfast. Guys, Finland have this yoghurt, not sure if it’s exclusive to them, that consist of a fruit compote and natural yogurt. My goodnesssssss, the blueberry one has special place reserved in my heart. The creaminess! 😍
I definitely to have to visit again, for family time and.. creamy yoghurt !
