Having realised that we had not been away for the whole year, my best-friend and I took the perfect opportunity to escape London and find a cheap flight to somewhere. ✈️ Neither of us had been to Marseille, so we thought, why not? After finding affordable and (what we thought was) decent accommodation, we booked the flights and was well excited to be on our way!
This was our first time going on holiday, just the two of us so it was an exciting experience to say the least. We were away for a short weekend with limited money yet we still had an amazing time.
As soon as we touched down in Marseille, we were faced with our first stranger danger challenge; a French gentleman noticed that we were two clueless chicks who had forgotten to work out how they were supposed to get from the airport to our accom 🤦🏾♀️ and offered to give us a lift without a taxi license. No thank you, Monsieur. We eventually took an Uber to the apartment only to find that it was not what was portrayed to us online but we still made the most out of a "meh” situation!
As it was our first time away (and the accommodation was situated in what seemed to be the ghetto) we were reluctant to indulge in any night life in Marseille. However in the daytime, we visited the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde by electric scooters and took a road-train thingy back down. We had French McDonald’s on the Rhône River bank. We indulged in classic French desserts. 🥐We stayed in and relaxed in our apartment, watching Princess Diaries and dancing to High School Musical with face masks, pasta and wine 🍷 And then hours before our flight back to the UK, we were relaxing on Plage des Catalans (a beach).
A trip for reconnecting, recouping and relaxing! A truly simple, yet brilliant time ☀️
